ESC Parties

ESC Parties this Fall Semester

(1) Saturday, September 24, 2010

Saturday, September 24, we are going to the nearby village of Chelsea (just west of Ann Arbor) to learn how to “Barn Dance.” This traditional American group dance to folk music is great fun. Most Americans haven’t done this old-style dance before. We will have a professional “Caller” to teach us and lead us through the many patterns and dance styles.

We will leave from the Pierpont Circle Driveway (near the doors that open to the Information Desk in Pierpont Commons) at 7:00 pm.  If you have a car and can give other people rides to the barn dance, that would be so helpful. If you need a ride, come promptly to the Pierpont Circle driveway by 7:00 pm — we will leave very soon after 7:00 pm so don’t be late or you will be left behind.

It is a 20-30 minute drive by car from Pierpont Commons to the Chelsea Fairgrounds where the barn dance will be held.  There will be others from U-M besides us — including undergraduates who are involved with “MichiganCru” (the undergrad U-M student group connected with “GradCru” which sponsors the ESC). Be sure to wear very casual clothes, including very comfortable shoes (gym/tennis shoes would be best).  Remember, we will be in a barn!

Please bring $5. The cost to enter the barn dance is $5 for each person. We have hired a professional barn dance “Caller” and bought snacks for the evening.  This $5 will pay for the Caller and food.  It also would be nice if each person would give the driver of the car they are in $1 or $2 to help with gas to and from Chelsea.

If you can drive, here is a map that you can print off or get the address from to get MapQuest or Google Map directions.

If you have questions, contact Chuck at cjroeper@gradcru.org or Jane at jane.liu@gradcru.org

The barn dance should be great fun — you won’t want to miss it.
